There are more than 80 different types of autoimmune disease and an estimated 23.5 million Americans have at least one of them.

Luckily, research into this area is fervent. Currently there are more than 300 different medicine and vaccines either in clinical trials or waiting to be reviewed by the FDA to help fight autoimmune diseases.

Lupus is a difficult autoimmune disease to diagnose because it has so many different symptoms that it is easily confused with other conditions. Making matters worse, the range of symptoms is so wide that no one solution fits all patients. However, a new monoclonal antibody drug is currently being developed that acts against a protein which is considered a major factor for lupus development.
