In this video from the Lupus Research Alliance, Dr. Alana Levine talks about lupus flares and how they affect those who live with the disease.

Dr. Levine explains that each lupus patient is different and will have a different experience with varying symptoms. Flares, or attacks, are times when lupus is active, but the severity of the symptoms and the length of the flare will differ from person to person and often from each flare to the next.

Some of the most common symptoms associated with lupus flares are fatigue, joint pain and skin rashes. Lupus flares can be triggered by a variety of things including stress, sun exposure, exhaustion and infections.
