Lupus, also known as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), is an autoimmune disease which means the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissue, leading to long-term inflammation and pain.

Even though there is no known cause or cure for lupus, the disease appears to run in families and it affects more women than men.
